Metallic glass nanorods, shown here, are fabricated by sputtering, using a self-shadowing mechanism. A vast range of chemical compositions can be realized with this method, over large macroscopic areas.

I don't have enough background knowledge on the subject of this article to really understand it. The breakthrough about the unique method for designing metallic glass nanostructures sounds significant. I just don't really understand the subject. The fact that this material is 1/ 10,000 of the diameter of a human hair is astonishing.
