A Nervy Strategy for Transplants

The tendrils in pink are nerve axons reaching out from a transplanted eye. The cells in green have electric charges on their membranes that keep the axons from growing.

I think that this research is significant for progress in transplantation, however, the means of getting these results are cruel to the animals getting tested.

I think that this process is very interesting. However it is cruel because now there is a tadpole with no eye or the eye of another. I didn't think that the eye would connect to the body after being on a different animal. I thought this was a very good article.

This was pretty amazing. I didn't think it was possible to attach a third eye on an organism, especially on its tail! There are myths about gods with a third eye, and now that has come true! If this works on humans, this will be a very important step in transplantation. Now, you can really replace any organ that someone loses, but of course, it is transplantation, so another person (usually they're dead, though) will have to lose that organ.

I wonder if we could eliminate the use of transplants, by using a group of stem cells (which can grow into any cell) to become the needed organ. This could eliminate the use for taking our a dead person's organ and transferring it to the new person's body.

It is very interesting that people can put eyes or any body part of a tadpole and attach it to another. It is also a little bit disturbing but very interesting. I like that the scientists had multiple trials and that they tried it over again. It is also amazing how the scientists shut down the nerves by using a drug.

I like the thought that there is a progress for a new way to transplant body parts that someone lost by using a drug and shutting down the nerves and then attaching a body part to another. If this works on people, then this could be revolutionary because there would be an easier and safer technique for transplanting.

How cool! A new way for people to get a body part transplanted. However, I agree with Owen, and Jenna, this is cruel to the animals. The tail eye was especially interesting because, well, ever thought it was possible to take an eye and stick it on a tail of a living being!?!
It was really interesting to read about this because I like the thought of having a new way to transplant body parts. But it was cruel to animals and I do hope in further studies they do adjust the way to transplant it so that it is less cruel to animals.
