This image, made from a computer simulation, shows two supermassive black holes. They appear to collide at the center of the galaxy PG 1302-102.

This sounds like the ultimate apocalypse, but I think that the universe will soon only be a single black hole, because if it has infinite gravity, everything will soon be pulled together towards it, and throughout this process, the black holes will get larger and hotter (because of the gravity like when the sun was formed by single atoms coming together by gravity where heat is created). This process will happen until the entire universe is enveloped by a single all-defining black hole. However, I also think that since the majoirity of the universe is anti-matter, which defies gravity, this might be prevented. Another idea that I have is if a black hole contains infinite gravity at it's center, than there must be a possibility for a multiverse, which will contain infinite gravity from potentially infinite universes. Anyways, all of these ideas won't occur, if it is possible, until billions or trillions of more years, so no need to worry about this kind of apocalypse just yet.
Apocalypse is what I think of when I read this. I can't tell whether or not this will happen, but not for a really really long time. This was really interesting because I never thought that black holes could collide. They are so far away that it would take billions of years. But the computer-generated image was cool to look at because, like Siji said, will turn into one big black hole and cause the end of the world and the end of humans. Not to scare you :). But this was cool to read because it opened up some stuff I had never really thought about before, like how anti-matter defies gravity, and black holes suck everything in and how this effect can go on. This was really cool and I want to learn more about this in other articles and I hope we have more information soon!!!!!!
I think that there is some danger imposed in this article, but I think that we are fine for now, seeing that the black holes are 3.7 billion light years away.. meaning the only way we could get to these black holes would be if we traveled at the speed of light, we would need to travel for 3.7 billion years. It might cause destruction to the planets around it, but probably not to us. They think it might happen in 1 million years, so there is no way that anyone of us could be alive when these black holes merge. Also, we don't know it one will suck up the other one, or if they will touch each other and implode. Also, it says that black holes merging are surprisingly more common than you would think. The only way that we could be affected by the black holes (assuming the explosion even reached earth) would be if someone froze their head when they died, so that someone could bring them back to life later..... but that's another conversation.
I think that it's amazing that 2 black holes are only a few hundredths of a light year away from each other. Grace, when you said that it will cause the end of humans, it won't. The first 4 words of the article: "In a distant galaxy," it won't cause the end of anything in our world. This was a really cool observation by the scientists.
This seemed really cool. It just seems amazing that two black holes, which each having absolutely enormous gravity, could combine together into one someday. Too bad we won't live to see it, unless immortality is invented soon enough. I hope we'll get more information soon, so we can learn more about this.
It is so cool that two supermassive black holes are now preparing to face off. This is very informative, and I don't think that it is something that we have worry about. It is all the way in deep space. It would be really cool if the collide. This is very informative, and I would like to learn more about what is going to happen.
A universe is not infinite matter, while a black hole is, which is why I think a black hole would eventually absorb the universe. In the process, they would collide. When they collide it is infinite matter coming together at infinite gravitational force, so I think there can actually be a multiverse.
