I thought that this video was both interesting and scary. I don't want to graduate and then have no were to go for a job. I am wondering how the dexter bot works because I want to know what programs make it able to mimic human actions. If it does work I would love to have on at my house. I do think that this man is right because even below this comment box it asks "Are you a robot?" Hopefully we will still have jobs and a life in the future with help from robots.
This is both very true and alarming. The very point of technology, whether it's upgrading horses to autos (self-driving cars) or going from human calculations to a computer with incredible and unmatched memory and calculating abilities, is to make humans' lives easier. However it's starting to completely eliminate the natural human life. For example a multitasking robot that can think on its own will take over jobs because of its unmatched accuracy, calculations, and never losing focus. Soon, all that will be left in the work force is these robots.
I like that the narrator has a sense of humor and uses to it to make the video more memorable.
At the end of the the video, the narrator points that "This video isn't about how automation is bad, rather that automation is inevitable. It is a tool to create abundance for little effort." We need to think about what we do with all the people who will be unemployable because of what bots can do in place of people. I have no idea how people will be able to make money when all of their jobs are taken by robots. Seems like this is something we need to figure out.
I've watched this video a few times and picked out some of my favorite quotes. I love his opening statement: "Humans are smart...ly lazy." The next comment I like is: "But perhaps you are unfazed because you're a special creative snowflake. Well, guess what. You're not that special." Then the next comment I like is: "But even if we assume that the human mind is magically creative, it's not, but just for the sake of argument..."
This video was frightening. I think that the thought of having no profession and no money is horrible. I hope that I can maybe avoid this by becoming what I really want to be: a professional basketball player. My thought process: Basketball is for entertainment. Other people won't be entertained as much if robots in uniforms take over the game.
I think that this video was very scary. Realizing that all of our jobs can and will be taken by bots means that humans will have less jobs, which means that the economy could be damaged. It is cool how advanced these robots are hough, being able to create music, trade stock, and even create code for other bots.
I thought that this video was absolutely enlightening, providing knowledge of the automative revolution. However, CGP Grey believes that these robots, such as Baxter, will overtake the majority of human occupations. This would, theoretically, be reasonably accurate, but there is one gaping hole in his theory. My counter-argument rests on the fact that, if at least 45 percent of the population is unemployed, then the companies that market a service or product lose 45 percent of their business! Think about it. If Apple, for example, fires all of their sales managers, store workers, and blue-collar workers, they would be extremely monetarily benefitted. However, these unemployed people no longer are able to buy from Apple, because of a lack of currency. If Apple alone completely automated their industry, there would be no problem, (because the workers could obtain jobs at other companies) but as CGP suggests, this will be a worldwide concept that most businesses will adopt. Earth would be thrown into economic chaos, with a huge deficit on profit. This makes complete mechanization overall counter-effective, and therefore, this tactic will not be utilized. However, partial computerization is an entirely different story. If only, say, 10 percent of Apple's workers are dismissed, they are most likely generating excess money. I believe that companies will indeed use this amount of industrialization. Thank you for listening! Please respond with any rebuttals or additional information!
I think that this is actually a good thing. If in the future, robots can do everything from farming to space exploration, then we can just sit back and watch for errors or do things such as making new bots. A virus like ebola pops up. Our robots find a cure. A comet strikes Earth. We move to a knew planet. I think that this a extremely good thing, not a bad thing to be feared, and we should be using them to our advantage.
It is crazy about how everything is being replaced by robots. It does make senese that robots are much better than us. But once we have enough robots they will take over, such as the self thinking robots. Yet I don't think we should start this revolution. We should just make our jobs easier but not too easy. Because if robots do everything... what is the purpose of humans. It is insane that many of us might want to be programers just like me. Yet robots will shortly take over that job just because they are cheap. But this is insane we cannot let this man made machine take over the world and get rid of us just becuase they are cheaper and more efficent. It's like getting a road trip done really quick but not having fun. I hope they do not make machins mass produced but as they said you cannot stop it.
I think this was very Interesting. I do dissagree with the thought that human work would be cut out, because eventually there will be so much surplus that people wouldn't need to work
I think that this video was both scary and interesting. I thought that it was scary because I thought that one day, the robots will take over all of the jobs and come out superior. I am pretty sure that the human population is doomed unless the people learn how to be less dependent on robots and new technology. Also, the costs of the technology will be low at first, but it will be higher due to the gigantic demand and the fact that the companies just want to make a lot of money.
I think this video is very interesting. I can't even believe how much technology has improved and expanded. Robots are being programs to do several different labors and jobs. First, people built a robot that can see, so if you show Baxter, that is what the robot is called, how to do something, it can do, if it is in the reach of his arms. Second, they made cars, so you don't have to use horses to pull you around, you can just use a motor powered car. Then people have created a self driving car, so there is a less probability people will get in accidents, also you don't have to drive. Third, there ware professional bots, that can do some regular jobs. If you give a robot a goal, they normally can figure out how to do it. For an example, a bot named Watson listens to what people say, and then gives them the right diagnosis. Fourth, people invented creative robots, there is a bot named Emily Howell and she writes music as good as human composers would. Wow! I never knew there were so many different types of robots, and that they are doing human jobs.
I would think of this as the future and invasion of the robots I wouldn't want to be homeless and no job or maoney. At the same time I agree with Conor this was very informative of what might happen in the future and we might be able to stop this in advance but i think Baxter is really interesting and we may be able to use this type of robot for other things.
