These bacteria, called Clostridium difficile,
can be deadly. Scientists have developed a new and effective treatment
that uses beneficial bacteria found in the feces of healthy people.

I think that this article was very interesting. C. difficile is a really horrible disease. It seems similar to Ebola. It is sad that it usually infects people who have taken too many antibiotics and have also killed all of their good bacteria. The bacterial resistant is also annoying. It will never go away, but at least we can try to slow it down. Also, it's kind of gross that you get healthy microbes from feces!
I think that this article was very informative. It talks about the bacteria's history, its mutations, and even the types of toxins C. diff uses. This disease sounds terrible and dangerous. I also find the fact that to many antibiotics can cause this disease interesting.
I think this is a perfect example of bacterial resistance. When bacteria mutate old antibiotics are no longer effective and the patient is defenseless. It also shows how it changes to kill the patient faster from experience. This seems dangerous and many other diseases are probably using this strategy too. In the mid 1990's people thought it was harmless with their antibiotics but later it was a threat.
C diff. is a world wide or global problem and I think it is really bad.I think it is horrible about what it does to our bodies like severe gut pain and watery diarrhea plus high fever. It almost seems as bad as ebola now that I think of it. And by the fact that it takes our most of the good bacteria or microbes in ones body is just horrible because then C.Diff microbes can invade. I found out that it isn't new either we just haven't known about it because it hasn't been in the news recently. Also C.diff wasn't as dangerous before it got changed or mutated. Also it can Make THREE different Toxins!!!!! It is also kind of scary that it doesn't quite go away with antibiotics or medicine, it can come back later in time. Antibiotics don't necessarily kill off the germs because they are unable to kill them. One question is : Why do we have such a strong reaction to C.diff and what does it do to our immune system or bodies?
I know that when some people think of diarrhea, and feces, they think:
"Ew!!"
Unfortunately, diarrhea is unpleasant enough to make a person miserable enough. It makes you feel awful, and it is just a thing that you don't want. The interesting but awful fact is that C. Diff starts out as diarrhea and turns into a deadly disease. I think that it is very odd how feces is supposed to be waste excreted from the body, yet good bacteria is harvested from feces, according to this article. Then again, if you do take antibiotics for too long it will kill the useful bacteria. This is an interesting article, and I think that this is a good point to make to people who are using antibiotics for 3 months instead of a week because they might get this and be one of the 14,000 people who die in the US. I like this article in the sense that it is well written, but it does frighten me a bit. :)
